Damp is generally classified into three categories; rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation. Each type is caused by different issues and each will require a different method of treatment.
Rising Damp - rises up from the ground and as such only occurs at ground level up to a height of usually not more than 1 metre. It is evident by tide marks appearing on a wall, bubbling and crumbling plaster, spoiled external brickwork or render.
